So I was wondering....

On Saturday I was hanging with Some friends hiking up to Timponogos cave. If you have ever been up there you know that there is a paved path all the way up to the cave entrance. Well as I was hiking up I just wondered (out of the blue) why is asphalt named asphalt? I always wonder random things like this way randomly. Anyways, so i did some research and this is what I found thanks to dictionary.com.

Asphalt was used anciently by the egyptians to embalm mummies. It was also used by the middle east as mortar between bricks, as ship caulking, and in waterproofing. In the far east they used natural asphalt to waterproof by boiling it and separating the heavier molecules then as they would let it cool it would harden. They also used it in making statues of household deities. That was then. Now we use asphalt mostly to make and repair roads. The actual origin of the word asphalt is asphaltos which comes from greek and means to make firm, to secure. http://www.reference.com/search?q=asphalt
This seems like a fitting name or this stuff. I would like to know where that word came from but i think this is about as far as i will be able to get for now. What makes me laugh is thinking of how this stuff was named. I am sure some guy was playing with fire and just started playing with fire and when he got board of the fire he started to burn whatever he could find and threw in some asphalt and when it melted he waited till it cooled and then found out it turned hard. He then did what any guy would do. try to destroy it! I am sure he started throwing this hard asphalt all over and when he didnt break it he said this is asphaltos!....well maybe thats over the top...or maybe not. what do you think?

Is there anything that you wonder about like that? Ask me cuz i want to find out and learn.

Dating

So I went out on a date tonight....kind of? just a little frustration relieving here. I spent some time with a girl tonight. I think thats about as close as I can get to saying i went out on a date. We were going to go mini golf it up but she said that she was tired and just wanted to stay at the institute. I was disappointed but i want to be courteous to her so i agreed to stay at the institute and worked on a blanket...with a bunch of other people. Now I am not against going to do service project just not on a first date! It really doesn't foster good one on one conversion. Maybe I am crazy (and it wouldn't be the first time!) but whatever. Anyways, so after we finished our little quilting adventure we went and colored some books that we were making for kids in peru. It was cool and we talked about europe and it was getting better but after we got all done with that it had been about...45 minutes maybe and hour. i was thinking great...what am I going to do now...ice cream? drive? well she made that an easy decision when she started to go for her keys...well, see you later! Man what a bummer. I was stoked for this date too...oh well, maybe the girl in Denver or Ogden that my cousin and aunt want to set me up with will be better. I have been thinking about this and I don't know if I want to go out with another utah girl. this seems to always be the way things go. I can't blame the state but at the same time UGH! Well...frustration out!

The skinny me

The Goal

So on Sunday I had a nice kick in the pants in a spiritual way. The Bishop sat down with all the Return missionaries in the priesthood room and he talked to us about a few things on the subject of dating. Now he has not brought this up for the whole 2+ years that this ward has been around but he felt like he needed to this particular day. Well he helped me a ton thats for sure! It was like i took a good kick right on my butt, a little scolding if you will, by the spirit. I finally really realized that I was doing everything wrong when it comes to dating so I came up with a list of things that I need to improve on.

Dating impovements

aPlan out the date to a T
aAim to impress her
aKeep the missionary look
aDont push the relationship physically
aAsk her out directly and specifically not through text or notes

This is what i gained out of that talk. it was Great! i was so greatful to hear it. it was just what i needed to hear. It gave me something to start to work on which leads to other things, which leads me to my next point.

During the mission I did an awesome job of really loosing some good weight. see this picture:

Since then I have done an equally good job of gaining it back! As this picture is of me eating pizza! :)

I was going through my pictures last night and realized...Dang I was looking good there after the mission! So Now i am trying to live an active lifestyle and trying to change my ways so that i can look like that again because i just felt better about myself then. so now i am posting pictures of my skinnier self all over the place so that I can visualize my goal and once again attain to it.

Things that are going on

On Tuesday I Recorded a girl. Her name is Lyndsi Bromley. She was just amazing! I mixed it down for her yesterday and it sounds great!

Anyways so Devin and I are going to go St. George/California this weekend. it should be way fun! I love going there to surf and just hang out with some old friends. What got us going down there was a conversation about sandals. I was talking to him about Rainbow sandals and how awesome they were and how long they last and he asked where I got mine and i told him the rainbow factory in San Clemente. I told him we could buy them around here but they cost a ton. So we decided that we are going to hit up the Rainbow factory to get the good deal on some sweet rainbows! That translates into...SURF TRIP!!!! Should be sick! Since we were going to be passing by the Cummings Clan i decided that we should stop by and play for a bit so we are going to do that. should be rockin! I will let you know how it goes

the concert on friday

wow! that concert and BBQ was amazing! The majestic sun setting and the smoke rising up to the heavens. the sweet sent of burgers, and cheese. the sweet sound of good music and good friends just sitting around and taking a break from life. its was sublime. I think that it was the best activity that has been done yet! it went really smooth and plenty of people showed up and we had just enough food for everyone which was amazing! Then the talent that preformed was pretty awesome! They did so well! I mean wow! To start off the show there was Skyler Hokama, Robert Shomaker, and Sjon Christiensen. They did a great job. Then we had Nicole Sheehan who really won the hearts of the people. yesterday was Sunday and I had few more people ask for her CD. It was great. It was really worth her time to come. While she was playing we decided to move it inside cuz mother nature was chillin out her in April...i mean June. Sorry i get confused these days. Anyways we moved it inside and we lost some but that's okay cuz they really missed out. Once the stage was removed it made things really awesome because now it was more personal. She played a few more and then Jeff Stone was up. He can totally tell a story! It was quite awesome! He played for at least an hour or so. He had everyone listening and hanging on every word. It was awesome! I will get some pics up sometime soon of this awesome night.
